Our History
In September 1992, a fledgling waterpark ‘Splashdown’ was purchased by and taken under the wing of the group’s current MD Alan Richmond. Since the park’s opening in 1990, the park’s size has grown significantly and annual visitor numbers have soared from 125,000 to 180,000 with the site now operating as one of the biggest waterparks in the UK. In 2009, the group took over the reigns of Quaywest, an underperforming outdoor waterpark on the sunny English Riviera. Visitor numbers at the newly rebranded ‘Splashdown Quaywest’ peaked at a record 66,000 for 2013 proving it to be a successful acquisition.
Late 2009 also welcomed the valuable addition of Aquaflume; a water slide services division whose strength and breadth of knowledge is second to none.
In 2013 the Lemur Attractions Group was born, expanding further with the launch of Lemur Landings soft play (Formerly ‘Monkey Business’). 2017 saw a significant investment in the site segmenting its place as the largest soft play in Dorset. The investment saw the centre re imagined into what it is today, with a brand new suite of party rooms, a fantastic new climbing centre with new additions the SkyTykes Low Ropes and DigiWall. A whole new area on the lower level was created for little lemurs, with a new frame, 7 building interactive role-play village and baby room. It really is the ultimate children’s entertainment centre and themed party centre.
After a particularly tough period of uncertainty through the Covid-19 pandemic, the Lemur Attractions Group have come out the other side stronger than ever. Visitor numbers soared to record levels in 2022, welcoming over 340,000 people through the doors of our attractions. 2022 saw the signing of a new lease at Splashdown Quaywest securing our position at the site for the next 40 years and later in Autumn 2022 planning was approved for our exciting plan of investment which will see us transform the site over the next few years. The UK’s largest outdoor waterpark is about to get a whole lot bigger!
“I am proud to be a founding member of the Lemur Attractions Group, and part of its story from the beginning. Our hardworking teams are passionate about our attractions and aim to ensure that every visitor has a fantastic experience, every day.”
Alan Richmond, Managing Director
